Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside CEO Mike Sutton Featured “On the Record” with Sarina Fazan

TAMPA, FL – Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside CEO Mike Sutton was recently featured on an episode of On the Record with Sarina Fazan, available now on RHStv. As part of Fazan’s April Awareness Series, the episode highlights Sutton’s dedication to affordable housing and his ongoing mission to empower families through homeownership. 

A Tampa, Florida native, Sutton's passion for nonprofit work began during his studies in criminology at the University of South Florida, where he was introduced to community-driven initiatives at the YMCA in Tampa Heights. His commitment to serving families deepened during his tenure at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, an organization devoted to mentorship and support for underserved youth. 

“Children are gonna find a role model,” Sutton shared during the interview. “It’s either gonna be, you know, the guy standing on the corner slinging drugs or it’s gonna be someone who can help them determine a better path for the future.” 

Since stepping into his role as CEO in 2014, Sutton has spearheaded efforts to provide families with a “hand-up, not a handout,” ensuring that homeownership remains within reach through continuous guidance and assistance programs. Under his leadership, Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside aims to build upwards of 90 homes this year, expanding affordable housing opportunities in the region. 

His impactful work has not gone unnoticed. Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside was recently recognized by The Business Journals of Tampa Bay as a Best Place to Work honoree, further cementing its reputation as a pillar of community support and transformation. 

“There’s still no better way to build generational wealth in the United States,” Sutton remarked during the episode, “than through home ownership.”
