South Tampa Chamber Supports Education Referendum

On June 20, 2022 the South Tampa Chamber board of directors voted to support the proposed Hillsborough County Public Schools 1 Mil Operating Milage Increase Referendum which would increase funding around $146 million annually for a four-year period. The one mil increase is primarily designed to retain experienced teachers, compensate support staff (such as bus drivers, maintenance workers, food service staff, custodial staff, and other non-instructional staff), and meet operational needs in art, music, PE, and workforce education.

“Over the last two years, our district has experienced an increase in resignations and retirements which have created more than 1,000 unfilled positions in the district. Our teachers and educators are one of the most valued resources we have – they are responsible for helping to shape our future workforce. It is important that we do everything in our power to give them the support that they need to succeed,” Kelly Flannery, President & CEO of the South Tampa Chamber.

On August 23, 2022, voters will be asked to approve a one (1.0) mil increase in ad valorem tax that will increase school funding by approximately $146 million annually for a four (4) year period that will begin July 1, 2023, and end on June 30, 2027. https://www.hillsboroughschools.org/strongschools
