ADVOCACY & ACTION: School Redistricting | Bay to Bay Upgrades | Cross Bay Ferry

Dear Valued Members,

In addition to the dozens of opportunities we offer our members for connections, education and growth, the South Tampa Chamber also continues to take on a larger role in advocacy and community development. Here are a few items we want to bring to your attention.

Hillsborough County Schools Redistricting

HCPS has finished Phase I of the School Attendance Boundary Analysis. Three draft solutions have been presented to the community and a web tool developed that can be used to draw boundaries. From January 9 to January 13, HCPS will host a series of in-person gallery walk throughs at local schools where the maps will be on display. For a full list of details visit the boundary analysis page: https://www.hcps-boundary.org/

A community meeting will take place at Plant High School on Wednesday, January 11 | 5:30-7:30pm that will allow families, staff, and the community to view the proposed boundary scenarios and provide feedback online.

Bay to Bay Blvd Underpass Improvements

The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority is making capacity improvements to the southern portion of the Selmon Expressway. As part of this project, the Bay to Bay underpass will get a makeover! Please take this quick survey and let them know the kind of active spaces you would like to see. SURVEY: SouthSelmonCapacity.com/survey

Tampa Bay Ferry Project Requests Feedback

The Tampa Bay Ferry Project has launched a new website that details the ongoing progress of the comprehensive Ferry Plan to bring year-round, congestion-proof ferry service to Tampa Bay. The South Tampa Chamber supports the Ferry Plan as a low cost, financially prudent, and environmentally sustainable transportation solution to connect our region and embrace Tampa Bay as way to solve our transportation challenges.

The Tampa Bay Ferry Project will provide badly needed relief from congestion by reducing vehicle travel on our local roadways by tens of millions of miles each year while also supporting military families, personnel, and veterans traveling to and from MacDill Air Force Base.  It  builds on the success of our current Cross Bay Ferry service by increasing service to year round, adding vessels and adding South County to its destinations.  It will provide a big boost to restaurants, museums, cultural institutions, sports teams and shops in St. Petersburg and Tampa while providing many Tampa Bay residents with a fast, enjoyable and congestion-proof way to get to their favorite destinations and activities.

We invite you to visit the website and encourage you to take the survey about the Ferry Plan.
